GMC Yukon Oxygen Sensors & Components

An oxygen sensor measures the amount of unburned O2 in your GMC Yukon’s exhaust and reports this information to the on-board computer in the form of a voltage signal. This feedback helps the ECU to determine whether the air-fuel mixture is rich or lean and change fuel injector pulse width accordingly. Normal voltage produced by the sensor is 0.45V, meaning the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio is around the perfect 14.7:1. If voltage drops to 0.1V, this means higher O2 concentrations are detected and the engine runs lean. If the signal is high at around 0.9V, there’s less oxygen in the exhaust gas and the mixture is rich.

The primary sensor sends varying input to the ECU many times per second so that it can constantly adjust the mixture and hence ensure optimal emissions control, engine performance, and fuel consumption. An old or failing sensor isn’t capable of making precise, on-time measurements and needs to be replaced.
