About GMC Yukon

A descendent of another American favorite, the Jimmy, the GMC Yukon has been a mainstay in the world of full-size vehicles for more than 20 years. Originally based on the GMT400 platform, the first-generation GMC Yukon utilized a truck chassis, and in 1994, it switched from being offered strictly as a 2-door to adding a 4-door model to the roster. Consequently, the 4-door Yukon weighed in about a half-ton more than the 2-door model. The vehicle came standard with a 5.7 L small-block V8 engine. In 1994, a 6.5 L turbocharged V8 became available. In 2000, the Yukon and the Tahoe (both are closely related) were redesigned and moved to the GMT800 platform, at the time the most recent platform for GM's full-size trucks. Smaller yet more powerful engines were introduced to replace the standard 5.7 L from the first series, including a 5.3 L Vortec V8 capable of topping out at 285 horsepower.

The second-generation Yukon offered an automatic transmission only and showcased some exterior changes, as well. The outline of the body was now more aerodynamically friendly and the grille was improved for a bolder image. Inside the Yukon, upgraded seats, improved door panels, and a new dash were introduced. In 2003, the Yukon got new changes. For example, it was equipped with new GM's stability control system, StabiliTrak. Other amenities such as satellite radio and a DVD entertainment system were also offered. In 2004, the GMC Yukon was available with either a 4.8 L Vortec engine that displayed the same horsepower as the original 5.3L (285) or a new 5.3L Vortec rated for 295 HP. Redesigned for the GMT900 platform, the third-generation GMC Yukon debuted in 2007. The front of the exterior featured a substantial number of changes including a smoother, curvier hood, new fascia, and larger grille compared to its predecessor. New seats, real wood trim on the dash, chrome accents, and improved door panels made up the notable updates for the interior.

Thanks to Active Fuel Management, highway fuel mileage was improved to 19 mpg. Active Fuel Management shuts down half of the cylinders in order to conserve fuel when driving the highway. The Yukon was available with a number of engines upgraded with the performance-oriented GMC Yukon parts. The 4.8L Vortec V8 engine was still standard, although its was capable of 10 more horsepower (295 HP) compared to the previous generation, while the 5.3L V8 (320 horsepower) engine came standard on all 4-wheel drive versions of the Yukon. The 2015 GMC Yukon offers maximum towing capability of up to 8,500 lbs and better performance thanks to its frame composed primarily of high-strength steel for better crash safety and structural rigidity. This model also has electric power steering. It still has a live-axle, leaf-spring design, but the rear track has been widened. In addition, the interior design and materials have been updated to ensure a much more luxurious experience.

In today's world, drivers crave versatility and options. They want safety, power, and comfort. With SUVs becoming such a staple on the automotive landscape, it is no wonder why many have flocked to the GMC Yukon. The rugged capability and bevy of options make the Yukon a crowd-pleaser. The improved, aerodynamic body, bold presence, and exterior trim provide a sleek stylish look rarely seen on other SUVs. Flexible and plush, the GMC Yukon delivers on every level.
