GMC Yukon Anti-Lock Braking (ABS) System Parts

Introduced to the automotive market back in the early 1970s, ABS systems have greatly evolved and proved their efficiency in millions of vehicles including your GMC Yukon. The modern setup commonly includes an ABS control module, four sensors measuring the rotational speed of each wheel, and a couple of hydraulic valves in the brake system. Once any sensor detects that the wheel is rotating much slower than it should at the given speed of the vehicle, the control module makes the valves reduce hydraulic pressure in the brakes, in order to unlock the wheel and restore lost traction.

Then, the pressure is restored for a while, as you still need to brake; this process repeats many times per second, and finally, the brake distance gets shorter than it could be without ABS. In newer vehicles, ABS has an extension known as EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) that adjusts the braking force for each wheel individually.
