There are a few different items that a Ford Excursion trailer hitch will need in order to function properly. This sturdy device is going to attach to the underneath of the vehicle. The trailer receiver is usually offered with an opening of 1 ¼ inch by 1 ¼ inch, 2 inch by 2 inch or the massive 2 ½ inch by 2 ½ inch. When looking at the frame of the vehicle, you want to align the holes of the hitch with the holes of the manufacturer. When the hitch has been installed then you will need a ball mount. This is a heavy piece of metal that will usually have a bend or two in it. This awesome device will actually slide right into the end of the hitch. They are offered in a variety of styles, different sizes, and many heights. Always make sure you are purchasing the proper mount meant for the hitch and that it has enough strength to keep the trailer level at all times.
Once the ball mount is properly installed then you will need to hold it in place otherwise it will go sailing away quickly. This is what a clip and pin is for. Just slip the pin in the proper hole and push the clip in the end and it is nice and secure. You may want to get a hitch lock to secure your hitch from vandals.
