The BMW New Six was 6-cylinder luxury vehicle manufactured by BMW during the years 1968-1977. This car was BMW's attempt to address the market of luxury sporting sedans and compete with luxury autos by Mercedes that were dominating in the segment at the time. The models were named according to their engine sizes: 2500, 2800, 2800 CS, 3.0S, 3.0CS, 3.0Si, 3.0Li, 3.3Li. The choice of engines included inline-six power units that varied from 2.5L to 3.3L in displacement. The transmission options were 4- and 5-speed manual and a 3-speed automatic. CSL versions of the BMW New Six were lightweight models created for racing. The model’s predecessor is considered to be the BMW 501 and its successor is the BMW 7-Series E23.
