Making an internal combustion engine more eco-friendly is one of the main goals of the modern automotive industry, and a catalytic converter is one of those parts providing the biggest effect in this regard. It is responsible for reducing harmful emissions and turning them into less toxic or even neutral substances. However, in order to avoid or minimize the loss of power, the design and throughput capacity of this component have to be properly selected for each motor. ACAT Performance is an American manufacturer of catalytic converters, which offers interesting solutions aimed at improving converter efficiency and engine performance.
The company was established in 2010 when its founder acquired Delphi’s production facilities in Michigan and metal monolith herringbone technology that was pioneered by General Motors. Continuing the process of research and development, ACAT has designed a wide range of emission control and exhaust components and systems for automotive, motorcycle, and other industries. Currently, the company's assortment includes both herringbone metallic and more traditional ceramic monolith converters. Many models have been specifically developed for high-performance cars like the Ford Mustang and then tested on the dyno stand.
Testing has shown a proven difference in efficiency between the brand's metallic and usual converters. With the former, there was an increase in horsepower, torque, and fuel economy. Actually, the company offers metallic converters as a highly effective, lightweight, yet more affordable solution than any other rival's product. Their lower prices are mainly achieved thanks to optimized designs, smaller production costs, and somewhat lower content of rare-earth metals, which doesn't affect performance. ACAT catalytic converters have passed CARB standards and numerous reliability and durability tests. Many of them are motor-specific and have a laser-welded stainless steel body for even greater reliability, while others are universal and available with different inlet and outlet diameters, with or without an oxygen sensor port.
