Chevy CK Pickup Track Bars & Panhard Rods

A Panhard bar is a type of automotive suspension link that has been employed by car manufacturers for nearly a century. Invented by the Panhard company, which currently manufactures light tactical and military vehicles for the French forces, a Panhard bar (also known as a track bar) has become a simple, cheap, and reliable solution resolving the problem of the lateral axle shift. Widely installed on older vehicles, the Panhard bar is not often used in modern automobiles, the vast majority of which has a fully independent suspension or benefit from a more sophisticated Watt's linkage.

Panhard bars can be found underneath Chevrolet’s CK of all four generations. Whereas the bar itself is represented by a simple metal rod, either straight or bent, the connections are provided by spherical hemi joints. The wear of these mounts is the most common reason for the faulty operation of the Panhard link, so most likely your CK’s Panhard issues can be addressed by the replacement of a pair of these joints.
