A “motor mount” sounds like something that is not subjected to any wear. However, it is. In fact, the lifespan of motor mounts is comparable to that of shock absorbers – it's long but definitely not endless. Why it’s so is because the motor mounts aren’t just a set of metal bars to which you bolt the assembly. Apart from supporting the engine, motor mounts are supposed to cushion the vibrations it makes. For that sake, the mounts include soft inserts performing almost the same functions as suspension bushings. And the problems they encounter are similar, too.

The most significant one is wear. Neither rubber nor other soft compounds tend to be particularly durable. And when it comes to Chevy Cavalier motor mounts & mounting hardware, it's better to replace the entire mount rather than trying to replace the inserts alone. Why you shouldn’t hesitate with that is because it would adversely affect the rest of your Chevy Cavalier's mounts. Typically, there are three of them, plus one mount that supports the transmission. When any of them is worn, the load that this mount was supposed to carry redistributes to the remaining ones. The result is their shortened lifespan and the necessity to purchase several new mounts instead of one.
