The Cadillac Seville was the series of mid-size upmarket cars launched in 1975 and produced until 2004 over five generations. Designed as an “import hunter” that was focused primarily on competing with increasingly popular German mid-size Mercedes cars and BMWs, the first-generation Seville was based on the K-body platform, the derivative of the commonly used GM’s X-body. The chassis turned out to be so suitable and progressive that GM was utilizing it on the Seville up to 1998, when the brand-new fifth generation debuted. However, due to changes in the naming scheme, Cadillac renamed the following generation the STS.
