The Stage 2 Cold Air Intake System will give you the greatest possible performance gain and the most bang for the buck. It replaces your factory, restrictive air intake system with the massive aFe performance air filter of your choice, a one-piece open element airbox/heat shield that seals against the hood, isolating the filter from engine heat, and a rotomolded plastic intake tube with smooth bends for increased airflow volume. The increased flow of cooler air to your engine will result in noticeable gains in power and performance. Cooler, denser air contains more oxygen, and more oxygen in your engine's air intake charge means better combustion, resulting in greater engine output.
The aFe Pro 5R air filter was designed to provide the maximum airflow possible, to enable your engine to make the most horsepower and torque. But aFe didn't achieve this by ignoring engine protection. The Pro 5R outperforms most other cotton gauze air filters with a 98.6% efficiency rating. The increased airflow and high filtration capability are the result of the Pro 5R's construction. It’s made of 5 layers of progressively finer medical-grade cotton gauze.
The Pro GUARD 7 air filter delivers increased airflow while providing the highest level of filtration efficiency available – 99.7%. The patented 7-layer progressive cotton/synthetic media in the Pro GUARD 7 consists of 5 layers of progressively finer medical grade cotton gauze, combined with 2 layers of non-woven synthetic polyester fabric with random porosity.
Competitors use constant size mesh gauze in their filters, which creates voids/openings that can allow dirt to pass through. As the progressively finer layers of gauze are stacked in the Pro 5R and Pro GUARD 7, the randomness of the openings increase, minimizing spaces with no filter media. Dust accumulates on multiple layers, increasing overall dust holding capacity and filtration efficiency.
The Pro DRY S filter combines high airflow and filtration efficiency with the convenience of oil-free maintenance. It contains 2 layers of randomly porous synthetic fabric, which allows approximately twice the airflow when compared to a typical stock air filter. The increased airflow results in more horsepower and torque, better throttle response and more miles per gallon. But this improved airflow and performance hasn't been gained at the expense of engine protection. The Pro DRY S has an excellent 99.2% filtration efficiency rating.
The pleats in all 3 filters are evenly spaced for greater dust holding capacity and the tips are rounded for better airflow. They're also 30% deeper than comparable aftermarket air filters for longer service intervals and greater dust holding capacity. The sealing surface and supporting structures are made from 100% polyurethane, to withstand extreme engine temperatures.
The one-piece airbox/heat shield is made of rugged 16-gauge powder coated steel. It installs easily in place of the factory airbox; no cutting or drilling is required. The box/shield is attached with quality stainless steel hardware that is supplied with the kit. Top quality, flexible rubber trim at the top of the box/shield seals against the hood when it is closed, shielding the air filter from engine heat and allowing it to take in cooler air. Some systems include a powder coated steel or brushed aluminum cover to further shield the filter.
A specially developed 3-angle velocity stack smoothes the airflow transition from the air filter to the rotomolded intake tube. The precision design and smooth contours of the intake tube maximize airflow volume and speed for optimum power gains.

The installation process took about 45 minutes to remove stock system and install AFE Stage 2 system. The only problems I encountered were the stock bracket to support the intake tube had to be bent down as it made the tube ride to high and wouldn't let the hood close. Also the MAP sensor inlet location could be more on the side of the tube instead of the bottom, at least for my application. The system looks great once installed. My truck has more power and a lot better throttle response. It also has a throaty roar which makes the truck sound stronger and beefier. My mileage has increased 1 to 1-1/2 mpg so long as you keep your foot out of it and stay under 70 mph. I would definitely recommend for anyone wanting a better sounding and responding truck. I plan to change the exhaust next to get even more power and better mileage.Was this review helpful for you? I live in Ca, so I need to change every 2 yrs for smog. It takes about 20 min to change out, no bigey. I have been getting about 2 miles per gal more, and an increase in horse power. Almost a pretty extreme gain in acceleration very impressed but for some reason the intake didn't delete the resonator box there for it is still slightly restricted and you have to cut your own whole for the vacuum to connect they send all three parts and even had decency enough to mark where to make the whole for the vacuum hose.
