Modern vehicles have numerous electronic systems governing the engine, transmission, climate control, audio, airbags, and many more vehicle components. These systems are controlled by computers based on feedback from various sensors. CAN-Bus (Controller Area Network bus) is a communications network that allows these computers, known as Electronic Control Units, or ECUs, to share data with each other without the need for excessive amounts of wiring. Instead, the data is transmitted over the same channel but prioritized according to level of importance. An important function of the CAN-Bus system is monitoring vehicle systems, including the lighting system, for problems. LED bulbs draw much less power than halogen bulbs, and when an LED bulb is substituted for a halogen bulb, the CAN-Bus system can interpret this reduced current as a burned-out halogen bulb and turn on an error message or light on the dashboard. In addition to current detection, CAN-Bus systems can employ circuit impedance detection and power matching detection to test bulbs, and the test may occur when the engine is started, when the light is turned on, or sometime during vehicle operation. Unlike some decoders that may not work with certain CAN-Bus detection strategies and therefore not be able to solve some CAN-Bus problems, Lumen CAN-Bus decoders are equipped with intelligent programming chip control system technology. This technology enables them to perfectly simulate halogen bulb characteristics and automatically solve any type of CAN-Bus issue, so when you upgrade to LED bulbs your lighting system operates properly with no error messages, flickering, hyper-flashing, or lights turning off unexpectedly. Lumen CAN-Bus decoders are available for all popular bulbs and installation is easy, just connect one end to the bulb and the other to the bulb socket.
