The Isuzu Impulse is a sporty compact car manufactured between 1981 and 1992 in two generations. This model was produced in 3-door hatchback and 3-door station wagon variants. The first generation (1981-1990) was launched at the 1979 Tokyo Motor Show, being designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. The Impulse was powered by a 2.0/2.3 liter I4 engine directed through a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual gearbox. The second generation's design (1990-1992) was created by Shiro Nakamura. This model was manufactured in two trims: the XS with a 1.6/1.8 liter DOHC I4 engine rated at 130-140 hp and the RS, offered with a 1.6 liter turbocharged motor capable of 160 hp.
