Hellwig Suspension Systems
Since Hellwig’s earliest days in 1941 when founder Rudy Hellwig received a patent for overload springs hammered out by hand in a rented blacksmith shop in Kansas, Hellwig Products has specialized in helper leaf springs, air springs, sway bars, end links, air compressors, and value-packed upgrade kits designed to enhance vehicle control both on and off the pavement. Founding Hellwig Products in southern California during 1946, Rudy got his start manufacturing springs that restored ride height, stability, and control to trucks and campers weighed down with heavy cargo. The company’s philosophy was to build products that exceed a customer’s expectations in both performance and durability, and his business practices of taking care of customers after a sale quickly built the company a positive reputation. After a 1963 Hot Rod Magazine feature showed how effectively Hellwig adjustable stabilizers eliminated handling problems inherent in stock Chevrolet Corvair suspensions, word of the company’s products spread. In the late 1960s, Hellwig expanded and relocated to their current headquarters in Visalia, California. Hellwig remains a family-owned business with a 4th generation actively and passionately involved today, and looks to the future with excitement of developing and refining products for an ever changing market. CARiD is proud to offer the best values you’ll find on a full range of Hellwig products because we feel that you will find, as our customers do in their reviews, that Hellwig performance enhancements yield results – not lowered ride quality.
Hellwig offers a range of powerful secondary assist leaf springs designed to support overwhelmed OEM leaf springs on full-size vehicles and restore proper ride height along with a stable, comfortable ride. As weight increases on the rear of your vehicle, the helper springs take effect gradually as the main springs become more and more compressed. So during normal driving without weight in the vehicle, their presence is invisible without causing any added bounce or harshness. For heavy duty or commercial use on “one-half ton” to “1 ton” vehicles, choose Load Pro-35 springs that can take 3,500 pounds of load off your main springs or Load Pro-25 springs with 2,500 pounds of support. For lighter use such as occasional towing of boats or small trailers, choose any of the Medium Duty Helper Springs with load ratings from 500 – 2,000 pounds. And if you’re interested in 2,500-pound helper springs that are purpose-built to eliminate all noise and provide a quiet ride, the Pro Series adds polyurethane cushioning blocks that eliminate any rubbing, friction, and noise between leaf ends. Whichever you select, Hellwig’s Load Pro Series Helper Springs Mounting Hardware Kit provides the heavy-duty mounting plates, U-bolt brackets, and related hardware necessary for installation. Once installed, headlights and foglights will be level again – illuminating the road ahead of you instead of the tree tops in the distance.

Hellwig also offers world-class air springs designed for load assist at the rear of your truck bed, and as a luxury conversion from coil springs. The Big Wig kit comes with heavy-duty air helper springs that level and stabilize 5,600 pounds at the rear of your truck, and it features a heavy-duty sway bar to keep your front suspension buttoned down. Big Wig air springs are designed with an extremely wide diameter to pack a larger volume of air. As a result, Big Wig springs require only half the air pressure to level a similar payload – giving you more cushion for better ride comfort as well as improved stability when the vehicle’s weighed down. Big Wig air springs also rise to a greater height than most, providing extended wheel articulation for stability on unpaved roads. Coil to Air Conversion Kits add a more luxurious ride to your truck or sport utility, and feature two rear air springs that bolt between axle and frame in the place of OEM metal coil springs. Conversion kits automatically restore ride height with 5,000 pounds of load-lifting capacity, and come with an air compressor, air lines, 1-gallon pressure reserve tank, wiring, brackets, and related hardware. Hellwig also offers Lifted Air Springs tuned to offer maximum stability on lifted trucks with a higher center of gravity.
Hellwig offers a choice of air compressors to inflate and operate their coil-to-air conversion springs, Big Wig heavy duty air springs, Lifted Air Springs, and more. If you’ll be using your air compressor infrequently to haul or tow loads during occasional weekend use, Hellwig’s Standard Air Compressor gives you great value by including the features you need and leaving off the ones you prefer not to pay extra for. If you’ll be using your truck frequently for work, the Heavy Duty air compressor features a higher 33% duty cycle – meaning it can be used continuously one-third of the time between cool-down periods of twice the duration. Heavy Duty Air Compressor kits add a 1-gallon reservoir tank to store pressure for instant spring operation before the compressor spools pressure up. Additionally, Heavy Duty air compressors allow individual control of left- and right-position springs for side-to-side leveling, and a dual-needle analog gauge provides monitoring of the pressure in each of those springs. If you prefer automatic height leveling, choose the Universal Auto Level Air Compressor. It features the same design and benefits as the regular Heavy-Duty compressor, but adds automatic on-off operation that lowers or raises your rear to maintain a level ride height. Because left- and right-side springs can be controlled independently of one another, the compressor can also boost one side of the vehicle more should loads be piled in your bed unevenly.
In this section, you’ll find a range of Hellwig sway bars and end links designed with greater adjustability and stronger construction than original equipment on your vehicle. End links are offered in OEM style, adjustable-length, and quick-disconnect form for off road use. For sway bars, most offer the choice of solid steel construction for maximum strength or tubular construction for the lightest weight. All Hellwig sway bars offer the option of three mounting holes per side – letting you select exactly how much stiffness each bar provides. Set them to maintain a normal ride, or use different mounting points to increase rigidity and keep body roll at an extreme minimum when buttoned-down performance is the goal. Chrome molybdenum steel (also known as “chromoly”) is used in the construction of Hellwig sway bars, and its blend of iron, chromium, and molybdenum produces a closer-grained metal than traditional steel. This gives the solid sway bars greater strength from an equal amount of material, and it gives tubular sway bars equal strength from less mass. To maximize the effectiveness of Tubular sway bars, Hellwig forms them by using a Drawn Over Mandrell (DOM) process that creates the most consistent bends – without pinches in the metal and without inconsistencies in thickness or strength. Whichever sway bars you choose, you’ll benefit from a design that is specifically sized for your make and model. Neither will interfere with your suspension’s comfortable ride under normal driving conditions, and both represent a perfect way to complement performance enhancements such as plus-sized tires and wheels.

I purchased the Air Helper Springs for my car. I wanted some extra lift in order to pull a large pop-up camper. I had the springs installed by a local mechanic. Product works great and gives the extra lift that I needed while trailering. I would recommend filling the air springs with a hand pump. With the small volume it is tricky to get just the right amount of air in the system.

I was very impressed by the price and performance of this product. It went on my old vehicle which does not have a huge following of aftermarket support. My intention was to get a few inches of lift for the sagging factory springs. This product did just that. The ride is not harsh. I can now put more weight in the vehicle without fear of the suspension bottoming out. Handling was also improved due to more rigidity. Thank you for fast delivery. Order took 4 days to get it here.

I used these on my car to help stiffen some tired leaf springs. They worked very well. This leaf helper spring, overloads restored ride height and the car no longer sags when something is placed in the trunk. Handling also improved. I recommended this product!

These helper springs are fantastic. Capacity set and they completely transformed the rear leaf springs on my vehicle. The original leafs were sagging badly, but these helper springs did the trick. The car rides 100% better than before and I highly recommend them. Great product!!!!

Helper spring is easy to install, it stabilized the vehicle, for all sense and purpose for what it is meant to do it does very well. It took me all of 15 minutes to install, both sides. Thank you, CARiD, for introducing this product.
