SMI Towed-Vehicle Braking Systems

SMI

SMI Manufacturing, Inc is now owned operated by 3 generations of avid RV'ers with towing miles approaching 1,000,000. SMI Manufacturing, Inc was founded in 1996 by John Schuck and his son Peter. While there are multiple methods available to accomplish applying the brakes in a vehicle being towed, there are only a few that are 100% reliable.

The company's philosophy and belief is that the vehicle being towed should have the brakes applied exactly as if it were being driven. This means that the power brakes must be active and that the brake pedal must move. By using the power brakes, pedal pressure requirements are reduced to 12 - 15 pounds. Without power assist, pedal pressure must exceed 60 - 70 pounds just to slow the vehicle. This is just not an acceptable solution and totally unnecessary given the SMI systems available today.

Over the years SMI has found that less is better. Less electronics means easier installations, easier less confusing use, and most importantly long trouble free operation. SMI systems are leading the industry in innovation by simplifying the installation process and reducing or eliminating electronic circuit boards. SMI is different for a reason and it is this that has taken the company's product line to the top of the charts.
