Such a joint enables the wheel to move up and down with the suspension while also allowing it to rotate sideways following the driver’s steering effort. Another CV joint is installed on the inner side of the half shaft connecting it to the transmission. These joints include rollers or balls similar to the bearings that need to be greased to reduce friction and temperature. That is why they are protected with durable rubber boots designed to keep the grease in and dust and other debris out.

To prevent CV-joint grease from liquefying due to high temperature resulting in axle failure, we recommend using special vented boots and high-temp grease.
