2014 Compass Lower Control Arm Assembly (Cure for R&R of LH/RH Assembly Every 30K Miles?)
Proforged® 108-10253 - Front Driver Side Lower Control Arm and Ball Joint Assembly
Drive on a gravel road less than 1 mile a day and lower front control arms habitually fail at the ball joint and or aft inner bushings. Three sets of lower control arms in 92,000 miles! Original MOPAR in 38,000 miles and both versions of MOOG problem solvers were toast in 27,000 miles. Bought the Proforged brand supplied to CARiD from Holley Performance PN 108-10252 RH and 108-10253 LH with visibly larger ball joint diameters and am not disappointed with the product. Given the past failure of aft rear inner bushing I also purchased the Whiteline - Type 16 Control Arm (Urethane) Bushings from CARiD and swapped out the Proforged rubber version. Had to remove 0.3 mm (0.012") from Whiteline outer steel bushing collar to press fit and red Loctite the Whiteline bushings into the Proforged Lowers. Step drill out of the stock bushing rubber and Sawzall splitting stock collar took 10 minutes total to remove Holley aft bushings. Using a one inch grade 8 bolt, washers and nut to center and secure the Whitelines in a lathe made precision filing of outer steel bushing collar to 60.00 mm OD easy. Took and extra hour to modify and replace aft bushings but my past experience with Urethane vs rubber suspension bushings ensured better durability. Would have gladly paid 40 percent more for Proforged lowers with all Urethane bushings and given this product 5 stars to avoid the added labor/time. Will update the rating after 30K, but for now quite pleased.
