Created and tested in the 50s by Ford, the M151 MUTT ("Military Unit Tactical Truck") went into production in 1959 and became the main SUV during the Vietnam War. In addition to Ford, it was manufactured by Kaiser Jeep, AM General, and General Motors. It had an independent suspension, which allows for stability when cornering. The later A2 had a semi-independent rear wheels suspension for improved stability. The vehicle is unsafe for use on roads for civilian purposes so the M151 remained a military vehicle.
