Driving your Ford Ranger in summer can be challenging. When the temperature outside is rising, its cabin turns out to be the last place you’d want to be if your air-conditioning system is malfunctioning or not working. Surely, it doesn’t affect the driving performance and towing capabilities of your pickup truck. But it is what makes driving on hot summer days comfortable and minimizes the risk of dehydration and heatstroke. An A/C system can go bad for a number of different reasons. For instance, a faulty evaporator causes weak airflow and inconsistent air temperature. You may also notice that the air coming from the vents is warm.
This component consists of a case and heater core which has a number of finned tubes. An evaporator aids to remove heat from the cabin air and transfers it to the cold refrigerant within its tubes. This happens when the warm air from the blower fan passes across its surface. Besides, it also removes moisture from the air. When air-conditioning is turned on, that moisture condenses and collects in its case. A special drain tube allows it to drip onto the ground. Over time, it gets clogged. That means some moisture stays inside causing rust and corrosion formation. This is one of the reasons for evaporator failure and its replacement.
