Born, Built and Designed in America Since 1988
The BBK brand has been synonymous with bolt on performance for the modern muscle car since its beginning in 1988. In fact it was the founders Brian & Ken Murphy that designed and developed the first aftermarket air intake systems & performance throttle bodies for the then newly fuel injected 5.0L Mustang and TPI Camaro models. Back then nobody even knew what an air intake or throttle body was because people were just learning about these modern day fuel injected pony cars that Detroit had begun to produce.
Fast forward to today and many enthusiasts have only grown up on computer controlled fuel injection with a vocabulary full of upgrade items such as throttle body, air intake & mass air meter and have never driven a carbureted equipped vehicle. It’s this early experience and years of research & development, along with millions of dedicated enthusiasts that have allowed the BBK brand to grow into the largest source of modern day performance products for today’s cars & trucks.
Starting from a 1200ft building in Southern California, their BBK facilities have grown as fast as their product lines with nearly 200,000ft of state of the art design, manufacturing & distribution facilities located in California & Florida. Their R&D centers feature a total of three dyno cells and a team of highly skilled craftsman that also happen to be enthusiasts who really enjoy bringing the best performance products to market.
Their manufacturing campus includes a top notch CNC machine division along with a state of the art exhaust division using a combination of skilled hand craftsmanship with a blend of CNC bending & robotic welding for maximum quality in every BBK product. Their motto is “American Designed & Built” and it’s something the entire BBK team is proud of and will never change. If you are the owner of a modern day Dodge, Ford or GM vehicle and your looking to upgrade your performance while maintaining OEM quality & drivability, you have come to the right place.
Why follow when you can lead!
When they started BBK in 1988 their mission was to design & build products for the all new generation of fuel injected muscle cars coming out of Detroit starting with the then new Mustang 5.0L. Back then with almost no performance products available to enthusiasts like themselves, BBK was born along with some industry firsts such as the first air intake systems, aftermarket performance throttle bodies and a line of tuned length shorty headers.
Fast forward nearly thirty years and BBK has grown to become the number one manufacturer of performance products for the modern fuel injected muscle cars and trucks, with over 500 performance products and counting. Today their facilities on both coasts total nearly 200,000 ft. of state of the art design, manufacturing and distribution space. While they might be a much larger organization than what they started with, the two of them still spend each and every day working with one of the best teams in the industry dedicated to designing & building the best possible performance products right here in the USA.
While the BBK line has grown greatly over the years, never before has the American performance scene been better or stronger. With over 700HP from factory Hemi models, over 500HP from the new GT350 and over 450HP out of the all new LT1 equipped Camaro SS - Detroit is building the best canvas ever for their team of performance engineers. They are more excited than ever to share with fellow enthusiasts the joy that comes from bolted on more horsepower and maintaining the same level of quality & reliability you expect from the factory.
BBK builds quality performance parts that exceed that of the OE manufacturer. Without exception, all BBK Performance parts are direct bolt-on with no modifications. All applications are covered by full BBK manufacturers warranty and include detailed instructions for installation, with all the necessary gaskets and hardware included with your parts.
The BBKs team takes pride in every performance line they produce. Many products have been featured and/or tested by reputable magazines and websites. Some of the companys popular performance lines include:
Many people often ask, how did the brand BBK come to be and what does BBK stand for. Its actually the initials of company founder and current CEO Brian Murphy, his best friend from high school Barry Morrison and Brians younger brother Ken Murphy. Growing up in a small town in the northeast during the 1970s & 80s, Brian would read car magazines like Hot Rod & Car Craft and dream about Southern California and the performance industry as it was the birth place of the car culture and home of many companies such as Edelbrock & Hot Rod Magazine. Upon graduating high school in 1987, Brian convinced Barry to join him in driving out west to Southern California to start a new life and attend college.
A few months later after seeing how popular the new breed of electronic fuel injected pony cars like the Mustang and Camaro had become, Brian had the idea of starting a company that would sell performance bolt ons for these new platforms. Back in 1988 the leading aftermarket companies such as Summit Racing were focused on performance for the old school carbureted muscle cars and really didnt understand Detroits latest fuel injected platforms.
In 1989, Brians brother Ken moved out west after graduating high school to help Brian & Barry with the business which had started to establish itself with the 5.0L Mustang market advertising in such magazines as Super Ford & Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords. A couple of years later Barry would leave BBK to move back east and start a family, at which time Brian & Ken began to focus on getting more involved in manufacturing and expanding the BBK product line. Creating such industry firsts as the modern day performance throttle body, cold air intake and shorty headers, BBK would quickly establish itself as a leading force in this new world of EFI performance that was taking over the aftermarket as enthusiasts started to see how much potential these platforms had while delivering excellent mileage and drivability. During the 1990s Brian had made friendships with some of the industry founders & leaders such as Vic Edelbrock (Edelbrock Corp) & Bob Petersen (founder of Petersen Publishing and home of the same magazines Brian & Ken would read as little gear heads while growing up). These people had not only become friends but also an inspiration as Brian & Ken would build BBK into the top performance brand for the modern day car & truck.
Today armed with nearly 200,000ft of state of the art R&D, manufacturing and distribution in Florida, the BBK brand continues to focus on bringing the best quality, affordably priced performance products built right here in the USA. If youre ever in Daytona Beach or San Diego, be sure to check out their factory outlets and see what performance upgrades BBK offers for your favorite project. With over 600 products now available for most Ford, GM, Dodge & Jeep models, BBK continues to design & produce the highest quality dyno proven performance bolt ons with the same determination as when Brian got things started in 1988.
Every year, the BBK engineering team puts together a wish list of exciting performance product ideas. This list is then narrowed down to include only those products that meet their three goals which have made BBK todays performance leader. Real-world performance gains, OEM quality and durability for everyday use and affordability for the average do-it-yourself enthusiast.
With a new list meeting this criteria, the BBK engineering staff utilizes the latest in modern equipment and skilled craftsman to bring these ideas to life. Capabilities such as an in-house mold/pattern shop, computer scan tube technology and BBKs state-of-the-art dyno-testing facility ensure high quality every step of the way.
With almost twenty years of experience in the performance aftermarket, the BBK team of engineers is able to use their design experience and state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment to ensure their famous OEM-quality and unmatched performance.
A 1200 hp Dynojet Dyno Facility ensures that BBK products will perform to expectations before they are released for final production approval. For each product that passes this test, there are many that are sent back to development to ensure maximum performance gains.
Extensive dyno-testing and driveability tests are then performed to be certain that each product performs expectation and meets or exceeds BBKs high quality standards.
BBKs Southern California-based manufacturing facilities feature the latest computerized machining equipment to maintain ultra-high tolerances for every product the company produces. This high tech equipment along with a staff of skilled programmers and technicians means you will get the OEM quality BBK is known for.
Whether its the mirror finish of a CNC-machined throttle body casting, the precise fit of a fuel regulator body or the unmistakable quality of their lightweight aluminum underdrive pulleys. BBK quality can be found in each and every product the company offer.
All BBK CNC Series and eXtractor Series performance exhaust products are built with an array of high-quality components that have made them the industry leader for seventeen years. Such items as 3/8" thick laser-cut flanges, computer mandrel-bent heavy gauge tubing, standard chrome plating and optional polished ceramic finish guarantee this tradition of top notch quality.
The latest in robotic equipment as well as skilled craftsmen allows the BBK team to build such quality products at prices competitive with many lesser quality brands. A brief comparison of a BBK brand exhaust product with other brands is all it takes to see why people count on BBK for their daily driver as well as their weekend toy.
