From 1961 to 1963, the Oldsmobile F85 was produced as a compact car and up to its discontinuation in 1972 it was a mid-size car. This front-engined model with rear-wheel drive was marketed in three generations (1961-1963, 1964-1967, 1968-1972). The first generation was based on the GM Y platform and was originally available as a four-door sedan and station wagon, then a two-door coupe (later hardtop) followed. The first powertrain featured a 3.52 L V8 producing 155 hp increased later to 185 hp and a three-speed manual or a three-speed automatic (Roto Hydramatic). Second and third generations were based on the A platform. The displacement of engines was being increased year to year, the largest was a 7.46 L V8 unit.
