Distributor Cap and Rotor by Taylor Cable®. Periodic replacement of your distributor cap and rotor will keep your car running at peak efficiency. Here’s a matched set of distributor cap and rotor. They should both be replaced at the same time.
- Made from alkyd molding
- Superior protection from cross-firing and arcing
- Compression molded caps
- Corrosion resistant brass inserts
- Steel rotor springs
- High conductivity and unrestricted energy flow
- Made in the U.S.A.
Your distributor takes the high voltage from the coil and parcels it out to the spark plugs. The rotor spins around like a top inside the cap, making contact with the towers that connect to the plugs as it spins. This carefully-timed ballet makes the spark travel to the correct plug in the firing order, and none other. Carrying voltages higher than a Taser, and operating in the extremely hot and dusty environment under the hood, it’s no wonder the distributor cap and rotor need to be replaced at regular intervals. When the insulation on the alkyd plastic parts starts to deteriorate, it can let some or all of the energy in the spark escape, robbing the spark plug, and making for misfires. While cleaning a dirty rotor can help for a while, eventually the dielectric coating breaks down from heat and ozone, and becomes electrically conductive. The only fix is to install new parts. Fortunately, replacing the cap and rotor is easy. Just remember to change the plug wires one at a time, so you don’t get them crossed.
