The oil pan stores the oil that provides lubrication for critical engine parts during engine operation. There are about 5 quarts of oil in an average vehicle. Less than one quart of this oil is stored in the oil filter and some engine parts. The rest of the oil is stored inside the oil pan until it is needed. When the engine is operating, about half of the stored oil is circulated by the oil pump through the engine’s oil passages and the filter. When the engine is turned off, the oil returns to the oil pan. The oil pan also serves as a cover for the bottom of the engine to protect it from hazards of the road and pieces of debris. Since the oil is the lifeblood of your engine, the oil pan should be replaced of there is any sign of leakage or physical damage like dents.
This Engine Oil Pan by Spectra Premium is specially designed for your vehicle to bring OE quality, fit, and function. The product is manufactured using precise spot welding and baffling according to the OE design. To provide a protective coating, this pan is cleaned and pre-treated with a liquid iron phosphate, covered with electrostatic paint and then with electrocoating (E-Coat) paint. Liquid iron phosphate increases paint adhesion and superior corrosion resistance. Electrostatic paint is utilized to cover the outside of the product (the inside part of the product isn't covered with this paint to allow validation of the quality of spot welds.) Full e-coat paint (liquid bath of paint) that is utilized by the competition hides defects and/or prevents their detection because the paint could fill up a small crack that would eventually leak because of vibration.
The manufacturer provides quality control during all processes of production to ensure raw material and product validation. This oil pan is made of materials that are tear tested to validate the right size of material is being torn off depending on the thickness of the steel used, shear tested to ensure quality requirement are met, and thinning tested to ensure their high quality. The product itself is leak tested to ensure even the smallest cracks are not found anywhere on the pan, peel and salt tested to ensure it meets Spectra 200-hour salt spray test requirement, and fit tested to ensure it meets specific tolerances and is a perfect fit.
