Electronic fuel injection systems operate at very high fuel pressures. This is why the electric fuel pump must be able to consistently supply fuel at pressure as high as 75 psi or more providing the engine with enough fuel at the required pressure for proper performance. The typical pump has an impeller attached to the end of the motor shaft that draws in fuel from one end and pushes it out at the other end of the pump. An average fuel pump fails between 7 and 10 years. If you’re experiencing a no start condition or poor performance due to no or reduced fuel flow, and testing reveals that the pump is at fault, a Spectra premium pump is your best choice.

Works Fine, Scary Shipping Method.
Spectra Premium® SP1244 - Electric Fuel Pump
It fits perfectly. It is working. The electrical connections were a little different from a 'real' 1977 Celica fuel pump, but this unit came with the wires and 'so-so' instructions on how to change over so that worked fine. It came with some extra, new parts (gasket, elbow hose, etc.), some that I didn't need but other people/cars probably could use, that was nice. However, I was somewhat horrified when it was delivered in a shipping box that was about 10 times the size of the little box the pump was in because there was no packing material at all. This little pump was just slamming around inside the huge shipping box. I can only imagine every time this box was tossed from truck to plane to truck to container to shelf to truck to and every time the poor little pump was being slammed around inside its cavernous shipping box. If this unit had been damaged in shipping, I wouldn't know it and (assuming it works) I'd go running off wasting incredible amounts of time looking for other problems with my fuel system. However it was not broken (surprisingly) and is working.
