Why do the holes of the hitch brackets not line up with the holes in my vehicle's frame?
Some trailer hitches require holes to be drilled into the vehicle frame for proper hitch placement. Doublecheck the instructions provided with the hitch to see if drilling is a requirement for the installation.
How do I prevent my towing products (ball mounts, locks, etc.) from rusting?
When not in use, these types of products are recommended to store in a dry location away from extreme weather/excessive moisture. Also, it is recommended that these products are cleaned/lubricated with a quality penetrating oil to prevent rust buildup and corrosion.
What does GTW mean?
GTW of “Gross Trailer Weight” is a weight capacity measurement that is a combination of the weight of the trailer and the weight of the load in/on the trailer.
What does TW mean?
TW or “Tongue Weight” is a weight capacity measurement that is the amount of weight that can be applied safely to the trailer tongue and hitch ball.
Why will my portable electric winch only function in one of the directions?
Make sure the unit is being used on a 12-volt DC-powered car battery. The vehicle also needs to be running to receive full power when in use.
Why don’t the brackets for the adjustable tow bar fit properly on my vehicle?
The brackets are considered to have a “universal fit.” They are designed to fit most applications but not all. Horizon Global, Inc. is not responsible for any damages resulting from any products added or attached to the tow bar.
What function does each color in the T-connectors represent?
For BREESE Brand lighting and electrical products, green is the right turn/stop wire, yellow is the left turn/stop wire, brown is the tail light wire, and white is the ground. If you have a REESE 5-flat connector, you will have a blue wire which is a brake controller power wire. These colors will not always match the color for other product or vehicle wires. Always test the wire functions or consult your vehicle owner’s manual for proper color coding.
I plugged in my electrical product the way that the instructions show me and it is not functioning properly or at all. What’s wrong?
Test each wire with a circuit tester to make sure it is functioning properly. Also, make sure that you have a clean solid ground location/connection. Assure yourself that any fuses needed to provide proper power are also good.
Why does my vehicle have five (5) wires and your T-connector has four (4)?
Many vehicles on the market work on what is referred to as a “3-wire system.” This means that the vehicle has separate wires for turn signals, tail lights, brake lights, and a ground. Most of the REESE electrical T-connectors work on a “2-wire system”; i.e., the turn and brake functions are tied into the same wires (yellow and green). REESE T-connectors are vehicle specific and come with converter boxes built into the units. Doublecheck to make sure you have the right T-connector for your vehicle.
My ratchet has locked up and will not unspool. What should I do?
The ratchet has been overspooled. REESE recommends when threading the ratchet, pull through the extra slack of the webbing. When ratcheting, you should require only three or four ratchet handle motions to properly secure the load. Many ratchets have what looks like a “screw head divot” on the outside spool ends. In this case, you use a flat screwdriver in a sideways manner to assist with manually unspooling the webbing.
What does “rainproof” mean with the car top carrier?
“Rainproof” means that the carrier is made to withstand light rain, complying with IPX3 standards. This does not mean waterproof. In addition, when moving from a place with a humid climate to a place with a dryer climate, water vapor may condense in the bag. To safeguard your cargo against heavy storms and condensation, REESE recommends placing your cargo in plastic bags prior to loading into the carrier.
What does “weather resistant” mean with the car top carrier?
“Weather resistant” does not mean waterproof. “Weather resistant” means the bag's material will protect against dust, dirt, sun, and wind. The material used in the construction of this bag is not rain or waterproof. Therefore, to prevent exposure to moisture, REESE recommends wrapping items in plastic prior to loading; i.e., sealable plastic bags.
Can I use a car top carrier on my vehicle if it does not have a roof rack?
No. REESE cartop bags are designed to be used on vehicles that have raised side rails and/or cross bars - the bags are held to the vehicle by securing straps around the raised side rails and/or cross bars.
