The Peugeot 605 is an executive car produced by the French automaker Peugeot between 1989 and 1999. The Peugeot 605 was based on the Citroen XM (yet with a sedan bodystyle) and was successor of the unsuccessful Peugeot 604. The 605 was produced until 1999, when the car was replaced with the Peugeot 607.

The diesel variant of the 605 was introduced in 1990, with a 2.1L 12V unit producing 80hp. A turbocharged version was eventually available as well, with the power increased to 107hp. In 1994 there was released the 2.5 TD 605, joining the range until the end of production in 1999. In 1991 Peugeot added to the range a 2.0L turbocharged 4 cylinder engine with 150hp. The PRV V6 engine was replaced with a new independently built V6 in 1997, featuring 24 valves and with the capacity of 2.9 cubic liters resulting in 190hp.

In 1993 driver's airbag became standard on all V6 vehicles. By 1999 the range had been slimmed to diesel versions and was quietly deleted from the line-up. Peugeot is a great car to drive, especially on the highway, as it's driving smoothly and fine. Still, the 605 has gone from dealers price lists to be replaced with the all-new 607. Much had been expected of the then-new big Peugeot as the company was on a roll after the huge successes of the 205, 405 and 309 models.
