Performance Coolant Tanks

The coolant reservoir is an integral component of the modern cooling system. On some systems it’s an expansion tank and part of the pressurized system, providing the space for the coolant to expand and contract according to temperature, while on others it’s an overflow tank that contains coolant that escapes from the radiator. Both types are usually made of plastic, which can deteriorate, limit capacity on expansion tank systems, and be an eyesore when you’ve upgraded the rest of your engine bay.

By itself, one of our performance coolant tanks will be a practical and stylish addition to your cooling system, but it’s also the perfect complement to a performance radiator, cooling fan and other cooling system and underhood modifications. We offer both universal and direct fit coolant tanks, manufactured from strong and durable aluminum or stainless steel. And while most have an attractive bright natural finish, some are available polished, chrome plated, or in anodized or powder coated colors.

Your OE plastic coolant tank was adequate when your engine was in a factory state of tune, but modified high compression or forced induction high RPM engines create much more heat that needs to be dissipated, so every facet of your cooling system has to be up to the job. A plastic tank can degrade with time and numerous hot and cold temperature cycles, developing cracks and potential leaks that make it the weak point in your cooling system, possibly causing your expensive engine to overheat. Replace it with one of our performance coolant tanks. All of our aluminum and stainless steel tanks are of sturdy leak-proof construction, pressure tested, and built to withstand repeated temperature transitions.

Along with being an ideal stylish and functional replacement for discolored and crack-prone plastic tanks on newer vehicles, a performance coolant tank can also be a great looking and practical addition to the cooling system on older cars. Many classic and muscle cars had no coolant reservoirs and when the radiator overflowed, the coolant ended up on the ground. Not only is such loss of coolant not conducive to effective engine cooling, it’s unacceptable because coolant is considered hazardous material and antifreeze is dangerous to children and animals. A performance coolant tank used with the appropriate radiator cap will ensure proper coolant level in the radiator and prevent coolant spills.

We offer performance coolant tanks for both expansion tank and overflow tank applications, and some can be used for either system type. Many of our expansion tanks have greater capacity, so you can increase the overall coolant capacity of your system. Our universal tanks come in a wide range of shapes and sizes, so you can get the tank that’s the right fit for your vehicle, and most come with universal mounting brackets and hardware to facilitate installation. We have direct fit tanks for most popular vehicle applications. These tanks are designed to bolt on in the same location as the original plastic tank, and some feature an external sight gauge to allow a quick check of coolant level.
