Start the engine, after it starts, check for oil pressure and bring the rpm to 1500-2000. If the pressure is good, run the engine at this rpm range for 20 minutes. After this run-in period, final adjustments can be made and the engine put in service.
Always set your base timing to factory specifications for the break-in period. After the cam is broken in using an advance meter timing light, check your total mechanical and vacuum timing advance. Most engines can only use 34 to 38 degrees in total advance, depending on fuel and compression.
