Product Details

Speedometer Calibrator by Hypertech®. The law requires accurate speedometer readings, even if you have non-stock tires or gear ratios installed. The Speedometer Calibrator is created to provide that specific function if your Max Energy tuner is not equipped to do so. Additionally, it will read and clear DTC fault codes. Plug it into any OBD II compatible gasoline or diesel powered vehicle, enter new tire sizes and/or gear ratios, and it programs your vehicle's ECU to give accurate readings in minutes.

Features

Speedometer Calibrator

Speedometer Calibrator
If you’ve installed tires that are larger or smaller than original equipment tires, or if you have installed a ring and pinion gear set with a different rear gear ratio, the Speedometer Calibrator allows you to re-program for correct speedometer readings, as well as correct part-throttle shifting. The vehicle’s computer calculates your vehicle’s speed based on the diameter of the stock tires. If you’ve installed taller or shorter tires, or changed the rear gear ratio, the vehicle’s computer doesn’t know how fast your vehicle is going. As a result, the automatic transmission may not shift correctly and the speedometer readings will not be accurate (as required by law).

Emissions Certified 50-State Legal

Emissions Certified 50-State Legal
Hypertech offers an emissions certified version of the Speedometer Calibrator that is legal in all 50 states, including California. Only applications that have been emissions certified for sale in California are available in this version. In addition, there is NO DIFFERENCE IN POWER, PERFORMANCE, OR FEATURE OPTIONS for the same vehicles offered in the non-certified version.

Read & Clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes(DTCs)

Read & Clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes(DTCs)
If you get a “check engine” light or “service needed” message, the Speedometer Calibrator will allow you to read the code and gives you the ability to clear the code and turn the “check engine” light off. You can then make the necessary repairs to prevent the light from coming back on.

Return To Stock Or Change Option Settings

Return To Stock Or Change Option Settings
Hypertech’s Speedometer Calibrator downloads and saves the stock tuning program, then uploads your customized Power Tuning program. Before taking your vehicle into a dealership for service, always return the vehicle’s computer back to the factory programming. Once you have the vehicle back from the dealership, reinstall the Speedometer Calibrator Programming as before. The Speedometer Calibrator can only be used on one (1) vehicle at a time, so if you sell your vehicle or want to use it on a friend’s vehicle, simply return your vehicle to the stock tuning program and you may then use the programmer on another vehicle that is covered in the same part number.

The Speedometer Calibrator comes with a USB cable and a CD containing software to enable quick updates over the internet.

Hypertech’s Speedometer Calibrator provides value, and offers two main functions for those who don’t need performance enhancements. The Speedometer Calibrator will adjust speedometer and odometer readings to read correctly for non-stock tire sizes up to 54 inches, and it includes Hypertech’s diagnostic scanner function which can read, display, and clear fault codes. So if your check engine light is on, you’ll know why - and you can turn it off if you choose. The Speedometer Calibrator comes with a USB cable and a CD containing software to enable quick updates and upgrades over the internet. At extra cost, the Speedometer Calibrator can be upgraded with software to turn it into a full-function Max Energy Power Programmer with the full range of features available to that unit.

All Max Energy E-CON units come with a USB cable and CD for initial installation on your computer. Once the E-Con is prepped by your computer, it hooks up to any vehicle’s OBD II port. After reading and storing your vehicle’s factory engine control software, the E-CON uploads customized software you’re your vehicle’s engine control unit. Should you need to leave your car at the dealership, it’s easy to return your ECU to factory programming settings. Doing so also allows the E-CON to be used on a different vehicle – however, only one car at a time can be programmed. Should new product software be introduced in the future, it can easily be downloaded from Hypertech’s internet site at any point. This product is backed with a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.

Since its founding in 1985 in Tennessee, Hypertech® has been an industry leader in engine power enhancement through the use of software enhancements. In 1986, Hypertech created the original "power chip" which physically replaced factory engine control computers and increased horsepower and torque through remapping of computer-controlled fuel injection and ignition timing. As computer controls spread to other vehicle systems such as transmissions, throttle bodies, and variable-valve timing over the years, Hypertech was instrumental in software development that maximized the benefits of each of those systems to push the envelope of performance and fuel economy. In 1994, Hypertech was instrumental in creating the Power Programmer application which made it possible to download software enhancements into an existing ECU, which eliminated the need for replacement chips. Hypertech continues to lead the way today, and our virtual store is proud to sell their range of innovative tuners that offer features competitors haven't even thought of yet.

Works exactly as advertised. Very happy. 34" tires...now accurately shows MPH and odometer readings. Easy fix without messing with the truck's computer.

Lets say you install other than factory size tires on your truck and do not want to get speeding tickets this is the answer. While it took a few tries to figure out the correct settings it was easy to do. After using the Speedometer programmer I found that is has increments of .25 which adjust the speedometer by .5 mile an hour. As a example I got 35x12.5R20 Nitto Ridge Grapplers (actual tire size 34.76) so I played around and came to 33.25 and using a GPS app called DiGiHUD (used this app before changing tire size and in other vehicles to verify it was accurate) it was 100% spot on at all speeds. Only down sides is you need to remove the "tune" when you take your truck/car to the dealer for service due to all the "updates" offered by the dealership for safety and other items. Also the cost of the unit is a bit high for what it does read check engine codes and fix the speedometer I would think a item like this should cost less but sometimes the only way to fix it is to just do it right. P.S. I first took my truck to the dealership and paid them $178 to "calibrate" the speedometer and after I looked in to it the "calibration" was by approximately .02 and told me it would be "close enough" which it was not even relatively close.

Speedometer Calibrator
Used it to calibrate my speedo after increasing tire size to 35's. Easy as following the directions . Make sure you know in inches your tire size before you begin.

Toyota Tundra
After a lift and bigger mud tires my tundra would shift hard and the svc light would turn on under hard acceleration. I installed the Hypertech speedometer calibrator and it solved this problem.
