Dynamat is a thin, flexible, easy to cut and mold sheet that actually stops noise causing resonance and vibration, by using visco-elastic qualities that promote vibro-acoustic energy conversion. In short, that means noise becomes silent energy.
You can apply Dynamat in patches (25-50% area coverage) to keep a specific panel from resonating or you can apply it over an entire area (such as the floor, doors, or trunk) to create a sound barrier and vibrational damper.
Even a small amount of Dynamat can cause a profound noise reduction. For example, applying Dynamat to the doors of your vehicle can reduce road noise from 3-6dB!. Complete coverage of an average vehicle can reduce road noise 9, 12 even as much as 18dB.
As a car operates, it generates noise. This noise is caused by the transference of energy (vibration) from the internal components and from the road to the chassis of the vehicle. The chassis (doors, floors, roof etc.) transforms this vibration into audible noise. Dynamat transforms the energy (vibration) into silent energy.
Dynamic Control provides solutions for most vibration, noise and heat isolation problems. See the products section for more information on specific solutions for each part of your vehicle.
We recommend applying Dynamat to any surface you can easily reach. In general, we recommend treating your vehicle in the following order: Doors, Trunk, Rear Deck, Floors, Roof, Hood, then Fenders.
Heat coming from a hot exhaust or headers is a common problem. Fortunately, Dynamic Control has a solution. First apply Dynamat Xtreme to the floor and firewall, then install Dynaliner, both underneath the floor's carpet. This process is outlined in Dynamat Floor Applications.
Installing Dynamat requires only a few tools: razor knife or scissors, roller tool, rags and a solvent- based cleaner (rubbing alcohol also works). You also need basic hand tools for the disassembly and reassembly of your vehicle. Consult your owner's manual or vehicle's shop manual for instructions. Review the Car Audio Installation Instructions before starting.
Dynamat is sold in over 5,000 stores in more than 50 countries worldwide. Check International Distributor List to find information on buying internationally.
While results vary from vehicle to vehicle and depend greatly on the installation, typical results have yielded a 3dB increase in Sound Pressure Level (SPL) bass output from a normal installation.
If you are building an SPL competition vehicle to compete in dB Dragracing, IdBL, USACi, or IASCA Dynaplate is the right product for you. Dynaplate is designed to maximize the rules for the street car divisions of each organization. If you are competing in a sound quality forum, Dynamat Xtreme is a better choice. If you are bridging large holes in your door panels, first install a layer of Dynaplate then install a layer or two of Dynamat Xtreme.
