The DENSO Iridium Long Life plug is fast becoming the standard for today's high-tech engines. Properties of DENSO's patented Iridium alloy have broken through the spark plug technology barrier. Employing a revolutionary new 360° laser-welding process, DENSO has created a spark plug unlike anything on the market today. Designed for durability under the most extreme conditions, DENSO's patented Iridium alloy is six times harder and eight times stronger than conventional Platinum and can handle temperatures in excess of 4,000°F. You'll enjoy more horsepower, faster easier starts, less misfires under heavy loads, plus better conservation of fuel at all times!
Using the same laser welding process as the Iridium Power spark plug, DENSO designed a long life spark plug factory-installed on luxury vehicles by automakers such as GM, Toyota, Honda and Mitsubishi. Using its patented Iridium alloy, DENSO was able to shrink the center electrode to 0.7mm, dramatically improving ignitability and longevity.
The material Iridium is far superior to platinum, and is actually extracted from meteorites. The metal is 6 times harder, 8 times stronger, and able to take temperatures up to 1200ºF hotter! The DENSO Iridium center electrode tip is the world's smallest (only 0.4mm diameter) to produce the hottest most concentrated spark, while requiring the least voltage (5,000 less volts to fire than conventional spark plugs!) For performance or everyday driving, this plug is the one! Because of its patented technology, the iridium power plug outperforms any plug today... including the popular platinum! It fires better and incorporates all the top features below to maximize performance even under the most extreme conditions - you'll enjoy more horsepower, faster easier starts, less misfires under heavy loads, plus better conservation of fuel at all times!
Iridium is the most corrosion-resistant metal used in plugs today... it can survive the super-high temperatures (up to 4400º F) associated with high-performance ignitions and special fuel systems (turbo, supercharger, nitrous, etc.)
The Secret Behind DENSO's Iridium Patent!
Plug electrodes conventionally have used nickel and platinum. These were not pure metals, but alloys containing other metals. Depending on the composition of the alloy, the matrix material's properties can be maximized. Using the same approach, iridium is alloyed with rhodium. The rhodium layer covers the iridium, improving the properties of the iridium. This iridium/rhodium technology was recognized by the Patent Offices of Japan and the UK, and in January 1999, a patent was granted in each respective country. (Patent Number - Japan: 2877035, UK: 2302367). Because DENSO had this patented technology, DENSO was able to take the diameter of the iridium down to 0.4mm.
The most important things for plug performance are ignitability and sparkability. To make the electrode as fine as possible is the goal of spark plug manufacturers worldwide, and DENSO has taken the lead, succeeding in commercializing the 0.4mm diameter center electrode plug.
Why should I use the Iridium Long Life?
With a lifespan over 3x longer than conventional spark plugs, the Iridium Long Life is the perfect OE replacement for today's modern vehicles. For longer life and improved performance, this DENSO outlasts all others.
What design features make the Iridium Long Life stand out from competitors?
DENSO's ultimate long life spark plug comes factory installed on the latest high performance and luxury vehicles by automakers such as Toyota, Lexus, GM, Cadillac, Honda, Acura, and Mitsubishi. Using its patented Iridium alloy and patented 360° laser welding process, DENSO was able to shrink the center electrode to 0.7mm, dramatically improving ignitability and achieving the ultimate longevity -- longer than any other OE plug available.
