Salt is a very effective weapon against snow on the street, but it will eat through any chrome and into the billet aluminum. When salt mixes with water from the melted snow, it slops into the standard micro cracks of chrome and expands when it refreezes, which prys open the chrome and damages the product’s finish.
To avoid such damage, apply a coat of sealer wax to your new accessories, and reapply per the wax manufacturer’s suggestion. If you live on a road salted area or near the ocean, apply a coat of wax every time you wash your car to provide extra protection from the damaging effects of salt. Over waxing is better than neglecting your chrome.
After direct exposure to salt it is recommended that the chrome be cleaned and re-waxed as soon as possible. While they strive for the highest quality, they need your help to maintain the finish of their parts. Chrome accessories require a little more care but to enjoy your vehicle’s striking appearance for years to come the extra effort will be well worth it!
