During engine operation, cylinder firing causes the crankshaft to twist back and forth a small amount creating torsional vibration along the shaft. The harmonic balancer, also known as the vibration damper, absorbs and dissipates this energy to prevent the crankshaft from cracking and breaking. The balancer consists of an inertia ring, usually made of cast iron, mounted on a cast iron hub and separated by a rubber cushion. Because racing cars operate in extreme conditions of very high RPM and ultimate power demand, they require extra durable and high performance balancers for reliable performance.
This product is developed and manufactured to bring all the advantages to high revving and high horsepower street/race applications where an SFI approved balancer is required. Designed with a precision CNC machined AISI 1045 forged steel hub bonded to an equally strong steel inertia ring, Dayco PowerBond race performance balancer is only marginally heavier than the original cast iron balancer and generally much lighter than other all steel balancers on the market.
To ensure reliable and long-lasting performance, the steel inertia ring is positively protected against forward and backward movement. The balancer comes with easy-to-read computer etched timing marks and is manufactured using Race Series high pressure, low cure that features a natural rubber developed in the Dayco's laboratory and meets SFI specification 18.1. When you install this balancer you get nothing less than the highest quality, as it has been carefully tested beyond 21,000 RPM without failure.
Since 1905, Dayco has been a leader in the automotive parts manufacturing industry. During the early 1900s, Dayco was the first and only company manufacturing the airless tire. By the 1920s, the company had a robust tire manufacturing process in Dayton, Ohio for cars, large trucks and buses. From its founding to today, the company has followed its primary business strategy to anticipate and satisfy all the needs and requirements of its customers by providing innovative, quality, and durable products. Today its wide product line includes belts, tensioners, pulleys and hydraulics equipment for the automotive, construction, trucking, ATV, agricultural, snowmobile, and industrial markets.
