During engine operation, cylinder firing causes the crankshaft to twist back and forth a small amount creating torsional vibration along the shaft. The harmonic balancer, also known as the vibration damper, absorbs and dissipates this energy to prevent the crankshaft from cracking and breaking. The balancer consists of an inertia ring, usually made of cast iron, mounted on a cast iron hub and separated by a rubber cushion. The rubber deteriorates with age and exposure to heat, oil, and the environment, causing the ring to become loose on the hub. This can result in wobble, excessive vibration, and crankshaft failure. If you’re in need of a harmonic balancer for your diesel engine, don’t just replace, upgrade, with a Dayco Performance Harmonic Balancer.
Constructed as a high performance alternative for diesel powered passenger trucks, this product by Dayco is your best choice when it comes to replacement of your worn out or damaged harmonic balancer. To ensure superior durability and long service life, the product features a strong billet steel construction and is manufactured using ultra reliable Powerbond race series pressure bonding technology. This pressure bonded rubber produces rubber strength that is 3 times greater than stock. The Dayco Performance Harmonic Balancer meets the rigid standards for racetrack approval of SFI, a non-profit organization established to issue and administer standards for the quality assurance of specialty performance and racing equipment.
