Kit contains: 2 front foilers, 2 rear foilers, 1 roll 3M tape for the front pair 132", 1 roll 3M tape for the rear pair 160", 12 mechanical fasteners / screws, 4 3M adhesion promoter pads # 4298, 1 front template, 1 rear template.
Please read instructions thoroughly before you begin.
Before starting, please verify that all the parts and hardware listed above are correct and the embossed part numbers on the part correspond to your RS or SS Camaro.
Tools and additional materials required
Acetone or MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone). A burgundy 3M Scotch-Brite pad (#7447), clean cloths. Dry erase marker or soft pencil. Roll of 1-inch wide masking tape, optional drill with a 1/8" drill bit and short stubby Phillips screwdriver for the optional mechanical mounting screws if you choose to use them.
Important: if you purchased unpainted parts. Please refer to the prep and paint part sheet of the instructions.
Please note: it is always important to keep the parts very warm during installation, some parts may have lost original shape during shipping. Warming carefully under heaters or infrared lamps will allow parts to return to their original shape. Do not bend the pre-painted parts before they are warmed. It is a must that parts are soft and pliable which will allow them to form to the shape of the car. The factory paint on the foilers will spider crack if parts are bent while cold. A simple installation tip: parts can be warmed inside the car with the engine running with the heater set on high in a well ventilated area for about 5 minutes. This really does work well if no other source of heat is available.
1. Using cut-out templates, position on vehicle as indicated and affix with masking tape. Mark outside the template with dry erase marker or soft pencil. If you prefer, masking tape may be used to mark as well. Remove template and test-fit part for surface contour.
2. Supplied templates are also necessary when using optional mechanical screw fasteners. Punch small holes through the template where the screw holes are illustrated, this will help when using the template on the reverse side. Please note the template will be used on both the driver and passenger side. The templates indicate where the holes are to be drilled and should also be lined up with the dry erase / pencil / tape markings on the body. When the templates are in the correct place (double check positioning by placing the foiler on top of the paper template. All contours must line up perfectly) drill 1/8" holes through the indicated spots on the template, make sure nothing is behind the area that could be damaged as vehicles may vary from the factory. The vehicle CPX used to build prototypes may be different than the one you have. Continue to step 3. Then step 8 after 3,4,5,6 and 7.
3. After you are comfortable with the foiler location markings, the part will need to have the special 3M tape applied to your kit. Prepping the tape line on the back of the part itself is the most important process of the installation. You must use the acetone, MEK (the best chemical is ProBond). The cleaning solvent you use will need to be thoroughly wiped over the entire tapeline a couple times; be careful not to splash or wipe on the front painted surface as it will damage the paint. Then use the Scotch-Brite burgundy pad to rough up the tapeline. Apply the supplied 3M adhesion promoter (#4298) to the tapeline on the part. When the cleaning steps are finished, press the tape onto the tapeline groove approximately a 1/16" from the edge. Trim and cut tape as needed.
4. The tape will need to cure for 30 minutes. Leave the parts in a very warm area as this will promote flexibility and the best installation. Direct sunlight, space heater or infrared lights at a distance are the best. Be careful with the lights not to leave too long or too close as it may bubble the paint. Keep an eye on the process.
5. After the part is warmed for at least an hour, remove the protective red tape. This will require an X-Acto knife or razor blade to lift the corner of the red backing. You may need to re-warm the part if it takes too long. It is important to have a pliable part. Use the 3M adhesion promoter pad (#4298) to wipe the vehicle surface where the tape will mount and allow a few minutes to dry. When the tape is removed, carefully line up the part with your marks, starting at the top and working down, begin to press part lightly into place. This may require an extra set of hands as you do not want it to be misaligned.
6. Once in place, press heavily with your hands and a soft cloth all around the part to ensure adhesion.
7. Do not wash or expose the vehicle to moisture within the first 48 hours of installation.
8. If you used the optional template and drilled the screw holes, you may now take the supplied self tapping screws and manually place them in the drilled holes behind the vehicle surfaces, then screw them into the part snugly with your stubby short screwdriver.
