BERU Offers Quality Ignition Systems Combining Ignition Coils, Ignition Modules, Ignition Cables and Connectors.
German technology brought together with the BERU expertise to deliver excellence in ignition coil packs.
Excellence in high voltage and ignition energy.
Ignition coils are an important part of the ignition system. They provide no less than the necessary decisive spark that starts the entire ignition process. BERUignition coils are developed vehicle-specific according to customer requirements with or without built-in electronic module. Additionally, they are manufactured by computer-controlled technology, true to the BERU way of building in perfection. Produced in state-of-the-art facilities in Europe, Mexico and Asia, BERU® supplies OEM's with ignition coils for many significant European volume applications.
BERU delivers quality, laboratory-developed, compressed and improved car ignition coils that feature high ignition voltage and restricted space use in the drive unit & engine compartment.
Pencil Coils
Single spark ignition coils that require no ignition cables, featuring the below characteristics:
• Mounted directly on the spark plug;
• Designed to be temperature resistant;
• High-value materials for optimum ratio of weight to volume;
• With or without electronics module depending on the vehicle type.
Ignition Coil Rails
BERU coil rails – the alternative to pencil coils or plug top coils / coil on plugs: multiple ignition coils presented in a common housing with only one compact plug connection featuring the below characteristics:
• Simple mounting on the engine;
• As double spark or single spark technology.
Block Ignition Rails
• Resistant to high temperatures;
• Static high voltage distribution;
• Double spark coils with and without integrated electronics modules for 4, 5 – and 6-cylinder vehicles.
Plug Top Coils
Built and designed to suit modern downsized engines, light smart plug top coils feature the following characteristics:
• Great combustion energy & high ignition voltage;
• Temperature resistant, therefore durable and reliable;
• With or without interference suppressed spark plug and electronic module depending on the vehicle type.
Coils for Ignition Systems with Ignition Distributors
BERU applies its expertise to coils with ignition distributors. These ignition processes see the generated high voltage going from the coil to the distributor. The distributor distributes this high voltage to the corresponding spark plugs.
Distributor Ignition Coils (Single Ended Coils)
• Temperature-resistant;
• For vehicles with transistor ignition;
• High quality materials for optimum weight-volume ratio;
• With mounted or integrated electronics module.
Cylinder Coils:
• Temperature resistant;
• Rotating high voltage distribution;
• For vehicles of older generations with contact-controlled battery ignition;
• Established and proven solution.
Ignition contact sets are also known as contact breakers. Contact point ignition systems are used to switch the primary circuit on the ignition coil or switch the control current to the transistor.
The BERU Contact Sets feature the following characteristics:
• OE quality in terms of performance and design
• Fitted with tungsten contacts
• Sliding block, steel spring, insulating parts and points carrier made from selected quality materials
• Depending on the version, grease capsule for lubricating the sliding block included
In various technical versions:
P = polyamide sliding block: abrasion resistant for almost constant ignition timing
V = ventilated contacts for high mileages
S = captive screw to ease fitting

Distributor Rotors
The BERU Distributor Rotors feature:
• Insulating, high voltage resistant material similar to the distributor caps;
• With/without 1 kOhm — 5 kOhm interference suppression resistor, depending on manufacturers' requirements;
• With/without speed governing, depending on manufacturers' requirements;
• System-specific push-fit or screw attachment.
Distributor Caps
The BERU Distributor Caps feature:
• Insulating, high voltage resistant material (e.g. phenol, epoxy resin);
• Laquered inside and outside for further protection against condensed water and chemical effects;
• System-specific connector area with SAE, DIN, serrated teeth or M4 connectors;
• System-specific bracket, screw or spring clip attachment;
• With/without screening cover made of conductive plastic for returning interference to ground and to maintain electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in accordance with manufacturers' requirements.
Also known as the switching unit, the ignition module is used to regulate the current and dwell angle for transistor ignition systems using a hall sensor or inductive sensor. The module provides for reliable spark distribution in modern ignition systems with rotary high voltage distribution — a task that in older, conventional coil ignition systems was performed by the contact sets. Expect a reliable spark distribution.
Technical Features
• Tested in the BERU facilities, OE quality;
• Protection against corrosion of the connections and housing;
• High thermal resistance meaning increased functional reliability;
• Variants in the range include cooling plates or thermally conductive paste.
