X-pipes increase exhaust flow to gain horsepower by allowing both cylinder banks to make use of both sides of the exhaust system. These high-flow X-pipes are constructed from large diameter tubes that are CNC mandrel bent to ensure maximum flow and the most horsepower increase possible. They’re available in full length versions that connect to the factory manifolds or shorty headers and short versions that connect to BBK long tube headers, with catalytic converters or in off-road style without converters. Includes O2 sensor bungs. Bolt-on installation; no cutting or welding required.
Get the most horsepower possible from your V8 engine with a BBK High-Flow Mid X-Pipe. On a typical V8 engine, one cylinder on each bank fires within 90 degrees of crankshaft rotation of another cylinder on the same bank. The resulting exhaust pulses are very close together as they travel through the exhaust system. These close firing cylinders are competing for space in the exhaust pipe, which creates backpressure and reduces power. When the two close firing cylinders are exhausting on one bank, there is nothing happening in the other bank, so merging both sides with an X-Pipe effectively enlarges the exhaust system, allowing these exhaust pulses to exit through both sides of the system. The exhaust pressure on both banks is equalized and power is increased at all engine speeds.
BBK takes the X-Pipe concept to its highest-flowing form with these large diameter tube versions. All tubes are CNC mandrel bent to ensure the tubing maintains its diameter throughout the bend. Mandrel bending ensures that exhaust flow will be consistent for the length of the tube and CNC control ensures that every bend is made according to design. Full length X-pipes are equipped with OEM style die-stamped flanges to ensure a perfect connection with factory exhaust manifolds or shorty headers. Short X-pipes are specifically designed to connect to BBK full length, long tube headers. Both full length and short X-pipes are bolt-on installations; no cutting or welding is required.
All pipes feature bungs to mount the O2 sensors and street driven vehicles will need the X-pipe versions equipped with high-flow catalytic converters. The off-road pipes do not have catalytic converters and these are intended for off-road race use only. In some cases a tuner will be required to switch off the rear O2 sensors.
