Reducing restriction to let an engine “breathe” is one of the oldest and most well-known modifications and personified by “dual exhaust”. Letting both banks expel exhaust through their own separate paths was long thought to be the best for performance and definitely superior to a “single” exhaust system, like the one that comes stock on a V6 Mustang, where both banks feed into a single pipe. Today we know that even dual exhaust can be improved upon with an X-Pipe and that’s what you get with this Dual Exhaust Conversion Kit from BBK.
On a V-type engine close firing cylinders are competing for space in the exhaust pipe, which creates backpressure and reduces power. When close firing cylinders are exhausting on one bank, there is nothing happening in the other bank, so merging both sides with an X-Pipe effectively enlarges the exhaust system, allowing these exhaust pulses to exit through both sides of the system. The exhaust pressure on both banks is equalized and power is increased at all engine speeds.
This dual exhaust conversion with X-pipe is a bolt-on installation, with no pipe cutting or welding required. The X-Pipe with high-flow catalytic converters replaces the stock Y-pipe and factory converters. Connect the factory passenger’s side tailpipe and install the new driver’s side tailpipe, then connect both pipes to an aftermarket axle-back exhaust system for a Mustang GT. A template is included to cut out the bumper for the other exhaust tip, or a GT bumper cover can be used. With this kit you’ll get increased performance from reduced exhaust restriction, as well as great dual exhaust looks and sound.
