Your stock factory air intake system is a compromise, with air intake noise reduction, cost and ease of maintenance often taking precedence over airflow, even on performance models. Paper air filters are cheap to manufacture, with very small passages that are good at trapping dirt but also restrict airflow. The factory air box is also often very small, limiting the size of the filter, and the factory air intake tube is often small in diameter, has restrictive baffles and makes awkward bends, none of which is good for optimal airflow.

The BBK system includes a high-flow conical air filter, heat shield, and high-flow air intake tube. The conical cotton element air filter has much more surface area for up to 75% greater airflow than a factory paper air filter, without sacrificing any filtration ability. The filter is isolated from engine heat with an integral shield, which allows the filter to take in cooler, denser air. Cooler, denser air contains more oxygen, and more oxygen in your engine's air intake charge means better combustion, resulting in greater engine output. The large diameter and smooth contours of the BBK air intake tube maximizes airflow right to the throttle body. The intake tube includes a built-in high-flow mass air meter housing in the opening.
