The spark plug is the last step in the ignition circuit. It takes a voltage surge from the coil and creates a high voltage spark that ignites the compressed air fuel mixture within each cylinder. If everything operates properly, the engine runs efficiently providing maximum fuel economy and the lowest exhaust emissions. Spark plugs are available in different materials, heat ranges, reach, thread diameter, and seat type, with features to suit engine requirements. Always use the spark plug that is specified for your engine. If the wrong plug is used, it could come into contact with a piston or valve within the engine and break causing serious damage to the engine.
With these spark plugs by Autolite, you are guaranteed that they will not only fit perfectly but meet all the requirements of your engine as Autolite uses what is called a "rating engine" to match up OE plugs. Autolite engineers carefully measure OE spark plugs and then match the physical qualities with several Autolite plugs. Then they run the OE plug in their rating engine, which provides data that indicates the heat range of the OE plug. They use this data to precisely match every Autolite spark plug to both the heat range and dimensions of the OE product. Engineered, designed, and manufactured with professional care, these spark plugs meet all OE standards and specifications.
Thanks to their full platinum tips, these spark plugs assure virtually no gap erosion, feature high temperature and pressure resistance as well as provide 100,000-mile durability. The products also feature a high nickel alloy side electrode that maintains precise gap and necked-down center electrode that provides quicker and cleaner firing with less voltage ensuring easier starts, quicker acceleration and improved fuel economy compared to traditional products. Double platinum spark plugs are the plugs to use on engines with (DIS) Distributorless Ignition Systems. Unlike a distributor ignition, DIS fires the spark plugs in both directions. Half the plugs fire from the center electrode to the side electrode and the other half fire from the side electrode to the center electrode. Double platinum plugs help prevent side electrode erosion on the plugs that fire from the side electrode to the center electrode.
An innovation leader since 1936, Autolite® creates the highest quality ignition products for a wide variety of engines. Established in 1911, the company started manufacturing buggy lamps and became a thriving automotive parts manufacturer by the 1930's. Still, the first Autolite spark plug saw the world in 1936 and had instant success on the market. Today, the company is known as the manufacturer of America's best-selling spark plug and offers a number of spark plug series such as Autolite XP Xtreme Performance, Autolite Platinum, Autolite Revolution HT, Autolite Double Platinum, etc.
