The spark plug is the last step in the ignition circuit. It takes a voltage surge from the coil and creates a high voltage spark that ignites the compressed air fuel mixture within each cylinder. If everything operates properly, the engine runs efficiently providing maximum fuel economy and the lowest exhaust emissions. Double platinum spark plugs are the plugs to use on engines with (DIS) Distributorless Ignition Systems. Unlike a distributor ignition, DIS fires the spark plugs in both directions. Half the plugs fire from the center electrode to the side electrode and the other half fire from the side electrode to the center electrode. Double platinum plugs help prevent side electrode erosion on the plugs that fire from the side electrode to the center electrode.
