Product Details

Aluminum Gunmetal Gray Cold Air Intake System (21-699C) by AEM Intakes®. To deliver cooler air to the engine, this air intake system places the air filter outside the engine compartment. Cooler air is denser than warm air and so contains more oxygen, which results in better combustion and more power.

It’s a well known fact that cooler air is denser and contains more oxygen. Cooler engine air inlet temperatures result in more power. But your stock, restrictive engine air intake system delivers hot air from the engine compartment! The answer to this dilemma is to install an AEM Intakes Cold Air Intake system. AEM Intakes starts by positioning its high-flow Dryflow air filter outside the engine compartment, to draw in the coolest air possible. AEM Intakes performs extensive temperature testing for each application to determine the best filter location. But that’s not the end of the story. The Dryflow air filter is connected to the engine air intake by an aluminum tube tuned in length and diameter to match the engine’s intake resonance. The combination of cold air and tuned free-flowing intake tube results in increased horsepower and torque. And there’s no need to worry about problems with the engine control system when installing an AEM Intakes Cold Air Intake. During development, AEM Intakes monitors the engine control system fuel correction factors and sensors on each vehicle to make sure you won’t get any CHECK ENGINE lights. Like all AEM Intakes air intake systems, the AEM Intakes Cold Air Intake system is made in the USA and backed by a lifetime warranty.

Every AEM Intakes air intake system comes with the innovative, oil-free, high-flow AEM Intakes Dryflow air filter. Each Dryflow filter is engineered to exceed the normal flow capacities of the engine it is required for when clean, while providing outstanding filtration and dust holding capacity. And the flow requirements are exceeded by a wide margin, which allows you plenty of leeway for engine breathing modifications, without needing to worry about having enough intake airflow. The AEM Intakes Dryflow filter is constructed of a unique non-woven polyester-based filter media supported by aluminum screen wire for rigid structural strength. This filter media doesn’t require oil to filter and trap dirt and contaminants, and actually sheds dirt under engine vibration, unlike cotton-gauze, which holds onto contaminants until you clean the filter. When it’s time to clean, simply tapping the filter a few times will remove most of the dirt from the filter pleats. Then spray the filter with AEM’s environmentally friendly, mild, all-purpose cleaner. Rinse the filter with clean water and allow to dry, or blow dry with compressed air. Best of all, the Dryflow filter requires no oiling, so there’s never a chance of over-oiling. The Dryflow filter is extremely durable and will withstand almost unlimited cleanings.

Founded in 1987 by John Concialdi (J.C.) and Bob Sullivan as a tuning performance shop, AEM Intakes® offers cutting-edge products that are rigorously tested in its laboratories, and the company confirms its results on the asphalt of the track. AEM® 21-699C - Aluminum Gunmetal Gray Cold Air Intake System with Red Filter
Took about an hour to install. Between this my turbo-back exhaust made my mini respond quite quickly. I picked almost 3mpg. (wasn't expecting that bonus). I'm guessing 20 to 30 hp from the 2500 to 6000 rpm range. I felt spending close 900.00 for both upgrades well worth it. Only bad draw back for me is the exhaust drone it gives between 2500 to 3500 rpm. I'm an older guy which prefers a quieter exhaust note. I didn't have the drone till I put the intake on.

Great Air Intake for a Mini Cooper R56
I have never done anything like this to a car. I'm not a mechanic. The installation was easy and went on without any issues. I highly recommend this product.
