Acura TSX Camshafts

A camshaft belongs to the principal components of an internal combustion engine. Whereas the crankshaft converts the reciprocating motion of pistons into torque, the camshaft does the opposite – it transforms a portion of torque into the reciprocating motion of the valvetrain. Connected to the crank via a timing belt or chain, the cam synchronizes valves with pistons hence ensuring the adequate operation of the assembly. Enclosed inside the engine, the cams are well-lubricated and protected from the elements, which is why they can serve almost infinitely long. However, they are susceptible to oil starvation. What’s worse, they can also cause it.

The cams in your Acura TSX rely on seals preventing oil from leaving the area where it’s supposed to stay. With age or because of overheating, the seals lose their properties starting to pass lubricant.
