Naturally, of greater interest is what’s under the Type-R’s sculpted sheetmetal. It is powered by a familiar 2.0-liter turbo four bolted to a 6-speed manual gearbox, but this time around, the engine is tuned to develop 315 horses and 310 lb-ft of torque – up 9 hp and 15 lb-ft over the previous generation. Many of the parts and systems were tweaked to achieve and accommodate the power bump, with some of the changes being an upgraded turbocharger, tuned exhaust, and more efficient cooling with a bigger radiator. To bring the car to a halt in a more effective manner, there are two-piece front Brembos and a tweaked brake booster. The new R-badged Civic has a 1.4-inch longer wheelbase than its predecessor, while also gaining one additional inch in front track width and 0.75 inches in the back. Supporting these changes is a revised suspension system that enhances stability in a straight line.
