Because of their size and weight, tandem bikes can be unwieldy and difficult to mount to a roof mounted bike rack…until now. Thule's Tandem Carrier Pivoting Roof Bike Rack features a unique pivoting fork mount that allows the fork to be secured to the rack while the bike is supported by the rear wheel on the ground. Then, once the fork is mounted, the rest of the bike can be lifted onto the rack. The innovative design of this rack enables one person to easily load and unload a tandem bike.
The Tandem Carrier cradles your bike's wheels in a corrosion resistant 75" aluminum wheel tray. The tray can be attaches to Thule square load bars. If required, the rear section of the tray can be removed for access to trunks or hatches, and with this section removed, the rack can be used to transport a conventional bike. A secure stainless steel skewer holds the fork to the fork mount, and the wheel strap secures the rear wheel to the tray. To keep your trunk clutter free, we recommend that you transport your front wheel on the roof with the Thule Wheel On wheel carrier (sold separately).
A Thule roof carrier protects your bike from road dirt better than hitch or trunk racks. And the stable and secure roof rack attachment also gives you the versatility to add other accessories to the base rack. The Thule Tandem Carrier Pivoting Roof Bike Rack comes with everything required for installation, including detailed instructions. The limited lifetime warranty applies to the original purchaser of the product, and warrants the product against manufacturer's defects in materials or workmanship.
Note: To use this rack the bicycle must come equipped with a quick release front skewer. This carrier is not compatible with fork dropouts less than 5/32" (4mm), and the dropouts must be 3 15/16" (100mm) apart.
