The window regulator is a mechanism that rolls the glass window up and down. The power window regulator typically has the same basic design as the regulator used on older cars with manual window operation, but features a small electric motor that actuates it. To move the arms, this motor (or the hand crank on old models) turns a worm gear that meshes with teeth on a large plate that is connected to a main arm. Cable-type regulators have a more complex construction, with a metal track (or tracks) located vertically inside the door panel that function as a guide component (or components).
