Most aftermarket air filters are constructed from multiple layers of cotton gauze, which are sandwiched between wire mesh that is formed into pleats. The layers of oiled cotton fibers are able to trap dirt particles that are even smaller than the holes in the filter media. The airflow stays consistent between cleanings, for optimal combustion.

"I was surprisingly impressed with the CIA. The instructions that were supplied were excellent and when I called AEM for tech assistance a couple times they were very knowedgeble and helpfull. It improved the sound of the car 10 fold (love the deeper sound and very noticable swoosh between gears). I plan on buying the pre filter shortly as I live in an are that gets a lot of snow in the winter and an AEM rep suggested I get one for peace of mind. I also think I feel better acceleration. The only other mod I have is stage 1 Revo. One important note for anyone installing one on a VW that has built in security in thier radio requiring them to keep constant power to it. Find a way to keep power running to the radio or you will need to pay VW close to 100 dollars to get it working again. "
