2012 Volkswagen Beetle To Hit U.S. Roads in Fall

In early spring, Volkswagen revealed the 2012 Beetle at the 2011 New York Auto Show. The new vehicle comes with a few styling changes that add sportier and more dynamic look. Compared to the current model, the 2012 VW Beetle features a wider track and a 3.5 inches longer wheelbase. Other changes include upgrades in suspension and chassis to improve performance. The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle is the second generation since the first model was produced in 1938.

“Our all-new 2012 Beetle exemplifies power, styling and sophistication, and is an automotive icon reinvented to create the new shape of performance.” said Jonathan Browning, President and CEO of Volkswagen Group of America.

The engine offerings for the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle include a 2.5-liter five cylinder gasoline engine, a 2-liter diesel or a 2-liter turbocharged gas engine. As for transmission, a 5-speed manual, 6-speed automatic or 6-speed dual-clutch version will be available, depending on the trim level.

The automaker noted that the diesel version of the new Volkswagen Beetle will be added to the lineup in 2012. The price for this model will be announced closer to its launch. According to the official press release, the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle will cost minimum $18,995. The 2.0-liter gas model will come with a starting price tag of $23,395. It is expected that the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle will appear on road in the fall.
