Universal Brake Control by Reese®. Unlike timed brake controls that deliver the same power under all braking conditions, Brake Controls use Proportional Technology that senses the type of braking event, and applies appropriate power to the trailer brakes.
- Applies trailer brakes
- Shortens stopping resistance
- Required in most states, depending on trailer weight
- Manual override
- Adjustable for amount of trailer braking
- Plug and Play wiring in most newer tow vehicles
- Adapter wiring harness available for use with vehicles that don't have preinstalled wiring, will require splicing to vehicle harness
State laws vary: you may very well legally tow a trailer weighing as much as 10,000 lbs without trailer brakes in some states. Frankly, that's a terrible idea, regardless of the legality. Other states have laws that require brakes on a trailer weighing only 1,000 lbs. If your trailer has electric brakes installed, the smartest, safest path is to make them operational. For that, you'll need a trailer brake controller. This black box either gradually applies the trailer brakes as you slow down, or actually senses the deceleration rate and proportionally increases the braking action. On most modern tow-rated vehicles, it's an easy wiring job, calling for nothing more than plugging into the wiring harness underdash and near the hitch.
Play safe, and avoid equipment tickets and, oh yeah, accidents, by installing a brake control system from CARiD.47.82 71.20

Received the Reese hitch in a well-protected package. Everything was in the box with very easy to understand instructions. Being a steel fabricator, I inspected the material, design, and welding. All are outstanding! It took me, having never put one on, about 40 minutes to install. Fit was perfect. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Was this review helpful for you?
