The Ball mount is a critical part of any trailer hitch installation. The primary consideration is that the mount be strong enough to handle the trailer without failing or bending. It also needs to fit the hitch receiver and the mounting shank on the hitch ball. The ball mount is also your best opportunity to make the hitch ball the correct height to level your trailer. So start your search for the mount with the maximum weight your vehicle is rated to tow and the correct receiver size, 1-1/4", 2" or 2 -1/2". Then choose a ball of the correct weight rating and shank diameter. Only now can you start looking for a ball mount of the correct drop or rise. If you’ll be towing a variety of trailers, your best bet might be an adjustable ball mount so you can set the drop correctly without having to have a variety of mounts on board.

I used this extra long ball mount to attach a hitch mount bike rack (3 bikes). I have a 2000 Rav4 and the normal length ball mount did not extend far enough backward for the bike rack vertical support to clear the spare tire (Rav4's have a spare tire on the back door/hatch). I used this in the upside-down position, despite it not being rated for that. Looking at how it's constructed, I would say it would be safe in that position even for a trailer. It's extremely solid. Welds are perfect. CARiD was quite great to deal with and the entire transaction went as smoothly as can be.Was this review helpful for you? I received this well-made hitch for my Scion IQ, which I had just installed the curt receiver hitch with no problems. The receiver is strong being one force piece and looks really good on this car. I really like the 3 sizes that are available for this design, which allows you to get the right height for the trailer you are going to be pulling. Now the hitch has been painted chrome and really looks good. On this small car, the receiver hitch feels like It is attached to the seat you are sitting in. I think it is the best one for the Scion IQ.Was this review helpful for you? I recently purchased a trailer hitch receiver for my '12 Honda Accord sedan. Installation took a few hours longer than the 45 minutes suggested in the instructions, but the instructions were really good and the product fit like a glove. Best of all, the hitch receiver looks great on the car!!! It is short in the back, as opposed to stretching almost the length of your bumper. Not at all like one of those clunky giant receivers that mess up the lines. Now I can transport my bikes anywhere I go! I would definitely recommend this product. Was this review helpful for you?
