You know how important the automatic transmission is to your vehicle. What happens inside the transmission housing is complex, and it is engineered to take that complexity away from you which makes driving easier, and helps to protect the transmission and other components of the vehicle. While your automatic transmission is being maintained and is working at its best, you get to experience smooth speed changes, better fuel economy, etc.

There are a number of different types of automatic transmissions, with the most common being the standard automatic and the semi-automatic. The standard automatic will use a torque converter, as opposed to a clutch, which allows for easy speed changes, and prevents the vehicle from stalling while it is stopped in gear. Semi-automatic transmissions allow for more control by the driver, and they do use a clutch which is controlled by the vehicle’s computer. While these types differ slightly in the way they operate for the driver, they can have similar problems if they are not maintained properly.

These problems are quite serious and can cause damage on their own, or continue to become worse if they are not fixed. For instance, the transmission uses a lot of transmission fluid, which keeps the component from overheating and prevents friction on all the moving parts. When the fluid becomes low, or has not been replaced at the required intervals, it can begin to work against the transmission. You will also find problems with the transmission filter, which prevents dangerous metals and other contaminants from entering the unit, and this filter should be changed regularly.

Failure to perform the correct maintenance will result in a number of symptoms, each of which is very easy to notice. You may find that there is a burning smell, which is telling you that the transmission is overheating and is usually caused by a lack of transmission fluid. If you find the transmission 'slips' out of gear, or drops into neutral while you are driving, it is a sure sign of problems with the clutch or bands inside. Of course, as with any component using oil, you should be checking for transmission fluid leaks or a check engine light, and ignoring such problems is a recipe for disaster!

The Difference Between A Transaxle And A Transmission
In this article we'll look at the differences between a "transaxle" and a "transmission". In short, a transaxle performs both the gear-changing function of a transmission and the power-splitting ability of an axle differential in one integrated unit. A transmission performs the gear-changing function only, delivering power via a single output shaft at the back of the unit. Although both perform gear shifts in the same fashion, there's often confusion about these two terms because the word "transmission" is sometimes used as a blanket description to include transaxles when it should not be.

Last but not least thanks a lot CARiD, you make my Chrysler back on the roads again and for a fare price comparing the dealer price and the warranty you give and all the features.
